Detour Driving Directions

If you've entered New Castle recently, you probably spotted the large DELDOT road sign, stating that the railroad crossing at Delaware Street will be closed for a few days (scheduled to re-open next Wednesday, 9/27).

Well, it's happened. The RR crossing is blocked for road/grade repairs, and (if that's the way you usually come) you must enter New Castle another way.

For those of you who may not have spent a lot of time driving the narrow streets of town, here are some suggestions for finding your way to New Castle Presbyterian now through September 27:

1. If you approach New Castle via Rte. 141 South (Basin Rd): when you reach the intersection with Rte 273, continue straight onto Washington St (instead of turning left). [Now go to #3.]

2. If you approach New Castle via Rte. 273 East (Frenchtown Road): when you reach the intersection with Rte 141, turn right onto Washington St (instead of continuing straight).

3. Follow Washington St approximately 1/4 mile to where it ends at 7th St (Rte 9); turn left on 7th St.

4. At the next stop sign turn right onto South St.

5. In one short block turn left onto 6th St; OR even better, go two more blocks and turn left on 4th St (probably less traffic, and no light).

6. Turn right onto Delaware St, which takes you directly to the Historical District and the Green.

If you are coming from the north (i.e. Wilmington), you may want to consider approaching New Castle via I-295 and Rte. 9 South.

Welcome elcome to the New Castle Presbyterian Church website. For over 360 years this congregation has maintained a Christian presence in the area of New Castle and beyond. We have been worshipping in our present Meeting House since 1707, and we continue to experience the transforming presence of Jesus Christ here today. Our congregation has remained faithful to its mission and to each other as we have stood the test of each time in which we have lived.

Our nearly 200 members come from the historic town of New Castle, from the surrounding counties, and from neighboring states to experience the Risen Christ at work here. We are growing in numbers and in spirit.

We invite you to join us! Come participate in this bold venture for a new day and time. We celebrate our diversity and we rejoice in our various gifts. We are always looking for new ways in which to serve our community and our God. Won't you help us?

An Enduring Congregation,

With a Living Ministry,

Growing and Moving toward God's Future

New Castle Presbyterian Church
offers a nurturing and supportive church community
where all are welcomed to join
in prayer and song, study and service
as all are called to demonstrate
understanding, compassion, and acceptance.

By God's Spoken Word and Holy Spirit,
we seek to live out the Gospel of the Risen Christ,
as we grow spiritually, in strength, and with inclusiveness.
We worship God in simplicity and with clarity;
we study God's Word to direct our lives;
and we nurture the young and the searchers in our midst.

As a congregation and in cooperation with others,
we engage in service and outreach with the local community and the world.
We work to feed, clothe, and shelter our brothers and sisters
while sharing the selfless and forgiving love of Jesus Christ.

As we have been blessed,
we seek to use all that we have to bless others
with this good news of grace and joy.
